I guess I'm not necessarily looking for high-performance either. Kotlin Statistics is a showcase proving Kotlin can be a superb data science language, and static typing for that purpose is not only possible but advantageous. Hopefully it will blow up into something bigger and people smarter than me will be spurred to help take ownership and grow an entire ecosystem.
