I'm really excited about this idea, and want to write a blurb on it - at my old company, we deployed JavaFX apps through a portal.  Not even speaking to how buggy it was even in production (but addressing the general difficulty of updating native apps in the web), what embarrassed me most was the security issue of having such buggy code meant for deployment to a native application.  A user would click the link to download the application.
