if I were you @Adam Powell I'd go for screenshot testing for the components, even if you need an instance of an emulator running...the design of the components let you write your tests in a friendly and simple way. Using screenshot testing for the components will let you hide the usage of any implementation detail fron the testing viewpoint. We already do this in many of our projects with regular custom views
