Last night I had a dream. I dreamt that Kotlin Notebooks became an IntelliJ Community feature and with that, kotlin for datascience really took off. The first thing I’m doing this morning now is to check if it was really just a dream. But as the last message here is from me and from about two weeks ago I think it really was only a dream 🙈 😂

Your dream is absolutely legit!

does the kotlin notebook plugin rely on some IntelliJ feature that's not available on IntelliJ Community?
i
Yes, it relies on Jupyter feature (which is part of Python "Ultimate")
p
Oh so you mean with a pycharm license it's available?
i
No, because it's IDEA :( There is some movement in Pycharm team, they are separating Jupyter support to a separate module. We will reuse it after they do it, so we will not depend on Python plugin anymore
p
when there is no longer a dependency, kotlin notebooks can then be used in IntelliJ Community ?
seriously, between kotlin kernel in jupyter and kotlin notebook plugin... python folks are impressed when i show them

I've had mediocre success with kotlin kernel + vscode and jupyter plugin. I've ok using this setup till Intellij community has the notebook plugin 🙂

I think "mediocre" is a good way to describe it 😅
