# advent-of-code
p
I first started doing AOC in ’21. From what I remember, the first days were always super easy. I just did day 7 of 2019 and it was ridiculously hard. Did advent of code get easier over the years? Or did I just get rusty?
p
I think 2019 is notoriously harder than the other years. That said, i think I got lucky on Day 07 that my Day 05 IntCode CPU worked without modifications (just needed the plumbing together of the different nodes). I started with a coroutine/flow approach so it was just a case of hooking them up. I'm currently on Day 22 Part 2.
p
I was confused, because I thought that the first days are beginner friendly. Also the difficulties seem to vary between days by a lot. Just did the next day within… 10 minutes? https://github.com/PaulWoitaschek/AdventOfCode/commit/d9cc4eba892dc39712a88b54740049030c8c2035

Sounds familiar. Iirc the description for Day09 updates to the intcode CPU aren't the clearest.

I still miss 2019, building and expanding IntCode day after day was sooo fun
p
Yeah it's fun! I can't remember a puzzle in another year that wasn't isolated. But on the other hand also the reason why some days had so low solve stars. Devs who did not find a solution on day x can't build up on it on day x+n

The difficulty of the problems isn't linear, usually weekends are a bit harder then weekdays, and there is variation to not bore/burn out people

This Advent Of Code Daily Difficulty table one’s also fun to keep an eye on

Heh, the last 2 sheets think it's 2017 this year

I’m stuck on AoC2015 day 19 part 2 now 😆
(and it’s consistent with the plot linked above 🙂 )

I don't think AoC got easier over the years. The hardest string of AOC problems for me was the last week of 2021. Days 16, 17, and 19 of 2022 were among the most difficult problems I've encountered.
