I voted 👎 since I would absolutely use Kotlin for Android even if there was 0% chance of using KMP. But to be fair I started using Kotlin for Android before KMP was a thing.

At this point, avoiding Kotlin for Android development is pretty much impossible, unless you are an indy developer. Also, using React-Native (and it is quite likely the same with Flutter, but I don't have experience with it in production environments) does not shield from using Kotlin. In fact, you will have to use Kotlin in weirder, and more difficult situations, unless you are working in very simple things, with fixed, and light workloads.

I would put it the other way around, my decision to use KMP was influenced by the value/existence of Kotlin on Android, since I've been developing with Kotlin and Android since well before KMP. If there was a viable Swift Multiplatform, it could have been similarly enticing.

Maybe this question is more relevant for folks who were using something other than Kotlin on Android and then migrated to Kotlin?
m
Way more likely

But also only those who migrated to Kotlin after KMP became a thing? For example, I used Java with Android before switching to Kotlin, but I switched to Kotlin in 2016
You probably need to adjust the question, or you're going to get a lot of 👎 that aren't actually in the cohort you're looking for

Basically, the 👎 option started years ago.

Thanks all for the feedback! I'm gonna delete this thread, and republish with the right cohort framing.
