I just can't comprehend why this technology needs to exist.

I hate to sound like a conspiracy guy but it would not surprise me if what they say about not releasing this to the general public is not true. It's seems entirely possible to me that they want to put it in the hands of criminals on their payroll as opposed to criminals not earning them money.

It surely costs a lot of money, so it’s safe to say that they won’t so it for the greater good but make money out of it at the end of the day.
