Just came across this happening synchronously with KotlinConf, from Brussels. https://kotlinconf24.webflow.io/

It seems like @Maxime Dupierreux is talking at the event. Do you have more info on it?
m
Hi ! Yes my company is holding the event with jetbrains sponsoring us
I'll be doing a quick talk retracing the history of Android from java to kotlin. The rest of the day we'll stream some talks directly from Copenhagen
b
Cool, I might be joining but neither the website nor the Eventbrite page gives the address ๐Ÿ˜…
m
I guess I'll have a "talk" with the marketing team tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜…
The exact place should be confirmed this week

Hey @Maxime Dupierreux, I'm kind-of shocked this completely went under my radar, but I didn't look for local KotlinConf events since I'll be there in-person as speaker and trainer. We really need to try to get this of the ground again. Last KotlinConf me and @romainbsl got together again, and we first met on the first Kotlin meetup I believe. I'd love to keep that going, we need to come together more as a group. I don't even have an idea who uses Kotlin in Belgium, since I've been working remotely for 7 years. @bmo does the Android meetup still get together? It's also been so long since I've been there, like 7 or 8 years ago. ๐Ÿ˜ข Sorry, I'm not the right person as organiser but I have an office in Antwerp we can use as meet-up space ๐Ÿ˜…

@simon.vergauwen We closed the GDG Brussels a bit after COVID hit. Yannick had already left the organizer team, Lubos and I were the last ones. After COVID, I got kids and started working full remote, I never go to Brussels anymore so I decided it was too much of a hassle for me to continue and Lubos, understandably, didn't continue it on his own.

I am in a similar situation, and therefore I sadly never go out to any meet-ups anymore. There only seems to be a Java heavy focused one. Afaik the Scala, Kotlin & Android meet-up closed when COVID hit. I miss getting together once in a while though, and FOSDEM also didn't get a Kotlin room this year ๐Ÿ˜ž I feel completely out of touch with the Belgian software community.

Hi ! I live in south Belgium so meetups were inexistent before and even more after COVID. I now work in Luxembourg (still living in Belgium) and after some discussions my company is okay with trying to create meetups from time to time in Belgium (Brussels) or Luxembourg. When I saw the post of Kotlinconf asking for local events I thought it might be a good idea so I pushed the company to apply for sponsoring/collaboration
