Is anyone else using material 3 with compose? I'm finding the color system difficult to work with. Are folks using it as is, overriding the color tokens often, or something else? Thanks!

It is meant to be "hard to work with" if what you want isn't actually material design but something kinda like it. If you want to extend it you're most likely always gonna have to copy paste the entire implementation and adjust accordingly.
Slack even thinks what I am saying is 54 years old. Maybe it considers the suggestion old and wise? Or old and outdated? One of the two for sure 😂

My issue is that all my surfaces & containers end up too gray, whereas all the examples on the Material 3 website are very beautiful subtly-colored tones. I think I may have committed mistake #1 from that article and started with a seed color that is way too high contrast.

Or they got some elevation which blends in other colors with the surface color. You should try that too
