I do not appreciate people like this being part of...

While we're on this, I'd like to point out that the guidelines say:
• Using threads is not required, but do take into account that it does allow people to more easily follow conversations, especially those jumping in late.
I think this one should be changed. In practice, everyone is expecting questions to be asked in threads.
• Don’t use reactions to tell people they’re in the wrong place or asking the wrong question. If they’re on the wrong channel, point them to the right one. If their question is badly worded, help them correct it. Have empathy.
However, this I agree with. First, reactions do not notify you. If someone puts a not kotlin but kotlin colored (or similar) on your question, it highly decreases the chances that anyone else will answer, and you most likely do not know, so you cannot improve the question. I think all of us must get better at writing proper messages for threading issues etc, rather than using 🧵 etc.

I think it's quite evident in this case that it was not a matter of not understanding what people were asking from them.

Could slackbot be configured to write a pre-written helpful bit of advice to the OP when someone adds a not-kotlin emoji?
s
Was there at least a warning sent to the person for this sort of language used against other folks in the channel? If such language is allowed in the first place and is not a cause for an immediate ban that is... I am not super thrilled with the complete silence on this by mods so far 🙈

I am disappointed that this continues. We can't afford to have this become a new normal for this community. https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C0B8RC352/p1721087549859799?thread_ts=1718885769.405299&cid=C0B8RC352

Yep. Seems like with a strongly growing community, we're seeing people trying to push the normal towards an offensive tone on GH issues as well. And we don't have any moderation there, it seems.

https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C0B8RC352/p1721673349520239 Sometimes the patterns are just clear as day. Yet we allow such people to stick around, only to receive more of the same behavior. I don't know, do we need a 3rd strike? A fourth one perhaps? How many more.
c
Could we have some mods take a look here? It's been more than a month of the same repeated behavior.
g
I don't think that moderators could do anything with it, after the user already got a warning before
I will ping admins, with suggestion to ban user and delete this message
c
Ah, only admins can ban? If so, yes, admins should do something.
g
Yeah, pinged already. Moderators don't have actual delete or ban permissions, we can only warn users and let someone from admins decide
