Hello everyone! We’ve just released PowerSync’s Kotlin Multiplatform SDK to beta 🎉 • PowerSync is a sync engine and set of SDKs for building local-first/offline-first apps. • If you’re familiar with the MongoDB + Atlas Device Sync + Realm setup you can think of PowerSync as: ◦ Any

PowerSync SDK (SQLite)
• The PowerSync Service can be self-hosted or deployed to our cloud. • Our Kotlin Multiplatform SDK uses SQLDelight under the hood but adds a comprehensive API with realtime sync. • See the full release notes, a todolist demo app and usage examples

Can I use the self-hosted PowerSync Open Edition in a closed-source commercial product or is this just for open source software and I need to acquire a commercial license for enterprise? I don’t have any experience with the Functional Source License. As I understand it I need to use a two years old version under Apache 2 to use it free of charge.

Yes you can use it in a closed-source commercial product, the only caveat being that the commercial product can not be a direct competitor to PowerSync

Thanks for sharing your understanding, we might set up a FAQ somewhere

Hi, I’m also on the PowerSync team.
As I understand it I need to use a two years old version under Apache 2 to use it free of charge.
You can use the latest Open Edition version free of charge. The restriction that applies to the latest Open Edition version is that it cannot be used in a directly competing product. That restriction falls away as versions get older than 2 years, and licenses convert to Apache 2.0. This write-up could be useful, as well as the FSL license site. We’ll look into creating an FAQ — thanks for sharing your thoughts!
