Is this an legal/intended use of the Kotlin brand assets?

That's where I got the assets from. They talk about user groups, but not actual use cases how the logo can be used and how not. That's why I'm asking. There seems to be no #legal channel for those questions.
c
🤔 Kotlin itself is open-source under the Apache 2.0 license so I guess there is no “legal” entity that will apply despite this license.
and there are guidelines how to use the logo in the link: > Pay special attention to the following restrictions concerning the use of the logo: > • Do not separate the mark from the text. Do not swap elements. > • Do not change the transparency of the logo. > • Do not outline the logo. > • Do not repaint the logo in third-party colors. > • Do not change the text. > • Do not set the logo against a complex background. Do not place the logo in front of a bright background.
s
That are instructions not to manipulate the logo like repainting. That doesn't tell me how I'm allowed to use the logo as-is.

I already assume that my usage is fine, but would be great if JetBrains staff could tell me "yeah, that's fine" or not
c
I guess you need to ping someone otherwise you’ll not get the attention from one at Jetbrains if you post in the #C09222272 channel.

@Alina Dolgikh [JB] Hi, can you tell me who I can contact if I have such legal questions?
@Chrimaeon I agree with you that the wording can be understood as "Do whatever you want with this assets as long as you don't change it" So using it in any context would be fine. I don't know... maybe I should not have raised this, but I want to avoid trouble using assets where I'm not 100% certain.

Hi! It rather falls under these guidelines https://kotlinfoundation.org/guidelines/
s
Ah, that's what I was looking for. Thanks. Maybe set a link from the asset page to this guidelines page.

Ping me if you still have doubts. It looks legit to me, though.

The first or most prominent mention of the Kotlin trademark should be immediately followed by the TM symbol. For example “Kotlin™ ...”
strange that the “image” does not include the TM
1
We encourage the use of the TM symbol whenever possible, but recognize that many non-commercial and informal uses will omit it.
You need to add it yourself if applicable I guess.

I think in my case this is my use:
Identify that your software is written in the Kotlin programming language
a
yes, but
This requirement is waived in all contexts where such marks are not normally included, such as non-marketing emails, online discussions, and academic papers.
