We know that Shared Preferences provide modes of storing the data (private mode and public mode), however I can't find anything related for DataStore. Is it in private mode by default?

There is nothing public in DataStore and you really don't need it to be public (even for shared preferences), if you want to share something with another app, use ContentProvider
