kodee welcoming If you teach programming to beginners, especially at the high school level, we have exciting news! We are working to bring Kotlin support to BlueJ, a very popular beginner-friendly IDE for teaching programming. We expect beta versions to become available for testing in the Spring, and full support being released later this year. Check out the blog post for details and stay tuned for updates: Announcing Kotlin in BlueJ

It is nice to hava an other option to programm in Kotlin with beginners. In my classes I use IntelliJ when CS is a main subject. For my other courses I use Python with Thonny. I think in these classes even BlueJ is to much for most of the students. The focus on OOP is also not fitting to the curriculum for those classes. I think Kotlin is a far better PL than Python and I would love to use it in every class and convince my collegues to use it too but I miss an very simple editor like Thonny (or even simpler). Maybe it is an option for JetBrains to develop such an editor.

Thank you for the feedback! We'll start with adding Kotlin support to BlueJ, as it's very suitable for beginners, and then see if we need to create something simpler / suitable to an even younger audience.
