...then allow me to kill it further with politics, because I'm just dying to know: Are US tech workers and companies now feeling a moral impulse to relocate? I'm not from the US, but have cancelled all US tech subscriptions, since contributing to US tax dollars now feels "morally incompatible with my workflow". It's hard to gauge what the feeling is elsewhere, but I do think at some point every human should weigh up principles vs. convenience. Thankfully my favourite JetBrains' tooling is all EU. ...and [JB] certainly have good form in this space.

(Disclaimer: I’m not from the US) Are you suggesting that people living in the US, should relocate to a different country? 🤔 Moving to a different city is already a challenge for most people, to a different country even more so. Pretty sure people rather say “this is fine 🐶 🔥”, then go to through the hassle of relocating. But maybe that’s just my view; 🤷

Well I may be suffering the 'zeal of the convert' as someone who did make a difficult decision to leave my own home country for reasons, but yes - that is what I'm suggesting. Moving has been a life challenge, and I couldn't blame anyone for not doing so. But the question was more about emotion. Are tech workers - many of whom are high earners with the means - at least considering it? Or, feeling the urge to? I'll refrain from using the most emotive descriptions here, but it really doesn't appear to be fine at all in the US, looking in from the outside 🔥 But like you this is just my view.

I assume "this is fine 🐶 🔥" is a reference to the meme, not a claim that people are actually fine with it?
f
That’s correct; It’s a reference to that meme

Thanks, just making sure I wasn't completely missing the mark.

I relocated to a different state in the US a few years ago fueled mostly by political disgust. Though pretty sure my personal views are opposite of most/all in this thread. Moving a whole family between states can be quite expensive but relatively easy since there isn't anything other than updating things like auto insurance and DL. I don't think i've heard of any "normal" working person moving out of country over the current political shift. Only holywood celeb types I can think of that moved to europe etc. Besides uncle sam still tries to tax any income for citizens even when living/working elsewhere, i think there is some exemptions but the leash is strong so the juice might not be worth the squeeze especially when incomes in our line of work seem to be higher state side?
