Kintellij idea New tools in your Kotlin toolbox – built right into IntelliJ IDEA! Your JetBrains AI subscription now includes: • Junie – a Kotlin-aware coding agent that can build full features or modules from plain instructions. • AI Assistant – an AI-powered coding companion that offers smarter inline help, completions, test generation, and refactorings. These tools are made to work naturally with Kotlin. We’ve tested them across server-side, Android, and multiplatform projects. No setup is required – enable the JetBrains AI plugin in IntelliJ IDEA and start exploring! 📖 More on how they work: https://kotl.in/jetbains-ai

Is free tier support ever going to come to Android Studio?
s
Junie is super impressive — a big step forward! 🚀 Definitely heading in the right direction. Congrats to everyone on the team! That said, the quota feels pretty limited… I went through my Pro Tier allowance in half a day, and now I’m stuck waiting 30 days. There's not a whole lot you can do — just a few prompts here and there. So be mindful of what you ask Junie to handle. If it’s something small, you might want to fix it manually. Having Junie correct issues in generated code can eat up your quota fast. 😅 Also worth noting: the voucher for a free month of AI Pro doesn’t stack with the AI Pro quota included in the All Products Pack. So don't waste that voucher like I just did and maybe gift it to someone else. 🫠

Stefan, I was able to stack it up and extend the expiration of my pro subscription of one month. Maybe is worth reaching out to jetbrains support?
s
So you were able to use double the tokens? Just to clarify: I didn’t have an AI Pro subscription - only the All Products pack. There is no AI subscription I could extend.
a
Ah, I see. No I have already the Pro subscription and the code they shared extended my subscription of 1 month
s
Do you have the All Products Pack?
a
No just ultimate+ai pro
I missed that you said you have an all products pack

s
Ah, ok. I see. Yeah, I expected that All Products Pack & AI Pro quota stacks up. It doesn't. So the voucher was wasted.

Still feels like a bug, TBF

Found it. It's just an UX issue. In the more menu of the plugin there is an "Manage license" option. I need to actively switch the license to use the others license's quota.
c
Having multiple tiers and finally giving something to us all products users, that was a good change.

It makes the All Products Pack more worthy. Also, it felt off anyway that "All" didn't mean everything anymore after the introduction of AI assistant. That has been fixed. 😉
b
What makes these AI products unique compared to other tools like Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, etc?
s
They work with real IDEs - the JetBrains IDEs. 😬 Cursor is a VS Code clone and VS Code is a toy. 😛

Junie means that JetBrains IDEs now come with a native, JetBrains-built coding agent onboard. So if you're a fan of IntelliJ, you can now use it for AI-assisted coding again - no need to rely on Cursor. That's the news! 🙂 The quality of the generated code still depends heavily on the underlying model (in this case, I believe it's Claude), but Junie’s IDE integration and overall UX are solid. Give it a shot!
a
@eygraber If you have a paid JetBrains license (like IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate or the All Products Pack), you’ll be able to use JetBrains AI Assistant in Android Studio once it adopts the JetBrains 2025.1 platform. However, Junie, AI Fixes, and unlimited cloud code completions will still only be available in JetBrains IDEs.

Is it something that could be supported one day, or is it an intentional plan to not bring Junie to Android Studio?
