Hi everyone , I fock and publish the Material 3 gallery (KMP jetpack compose ) on Google Play. You can experience it directly. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hynson.gallery

Similar, but it is based on kmpjetpack compose
s
Does that make a difference?
b
Yes, the underlying technology is different.
s
If it looks and feels the same, it doesn't matter. 🤷‍♂️
a
Publish it on app store, then it would be original.
s
Good work, @Bonsible Hou. Don't listen to Stefan. He is a known hater.

An app that uses KMP vs. an app that doesn't is useful. I find this useful. People put hard work into the stuff they post here and we should all be positive toward those who are brave enough to post.
We all start somewhere.
How do you want the Kotlin community to respond when you post your work -- do you want them to reject it? Be mean? Or be welcoming and encouraging? It's up to all of us to make the community we want to exist in.
k
for the mark: I don't blame on the post. any work is good. 👍 I pointed to the technical fact that multiplatform compose running on Android is absolutely identical with Jetpack compose

Yes, I still hope kmp develops. flutter doesn't like it
k
but I hope you added a link to my original project https://terrakok.github.io/compose-material-3-gallery/

Does not look like it.
s
Yes, you mentioned that

@Konstantin Tskhovrebov
s
Unpopular opinion, perhaps, but I find this kind of community policing really toxic. We should let JetBrains moderate the community. Comments like this can (fairly) be seen as mean by the contributor.
You've done this now on my posts too, and I remember how it made me feel (really badly).
I don't want other people to feel that way. Simple as that.
s
Sam, you should really stop the trolling. It’s not „original work“ to upload someone else’s work to Play Store and forget to mention authorship. That’s not acceptable behavior in the open source community.
s
I'm not trolling. There are many cultures and languages here. Telling someone their work "doesn't matter" can be seen as mean in many cultures.
Perhaps the poster mentions authorship elsewhere. Assuming good intention is the basis of trust and that is what builds community.
There are ways to warn people without being mean. I don't mean to single you out, but you've now done this on many posts.
s
There is no backlink to a repo or something like that. So if should have been mentioned in the Play Store description.
s
Is it worth it to you to have a perfect feed, if you end up encouraging people not to post?
Post links to interesting things about Kotlin. Discuss in the relevant channel, not here.
Nothing in the topic for the channel about licensing that I can see.
In fact, it's even a good suggestion to add a backlink. Maybe the poster is willing to do that.
We'll never know unless we give them a fair chance.
s
Yeah, I don’t like to waste time discussing with trolls. So forgive me if I’m not responding anymore.
s
That's alright, I'm sure you will do this again, and I will be there to respond 🙂
If you have a right to police the community, so do I, and I find this behavior to be really toxic. Until JetBrains speaks up, I don't see any other way to resolve it.
You were asked to stop by multiple parties on my post. I don't know if you remember that.
s
Which was a troll post, too. You eventually deleted it, but you didn’t learn anything from that. Grow up.
s
It was not a troll post. That is your opinion.
I deleted it after being encouraged by multiple parties to do so because it wasn't seen as relevant to the channel. So, I am able to respond to feedback. Are you?
s
It was trolling and you continue to do so. I don’t have anything to add.
s
I'm not insulting you or the poster or anyone else. I'm simply trying to build a welcoming community. Your comments here and on my post are something I think about often. It has a large impact. I'm really asking you, not trolling: please try to be kind.
s
In the case of this post I don’t like disrespecting open source work by copying it and not giving credit to original authors. That’s not how open source is meant and I don’t value such a behavior. My 2 cents.
s
This is a sample application. The author is not going to make money off of this.
Sure, they should probably credit the original authors. I agree. It's also not a sin with any real harm or impact.
It's something they can recover from simply by attributing.
Inspiration is a hard thing to explain and it isn't always definitive.
In any case, if we are assuming good intent, we can still warn the poster, or suggest that they attribute, without being mean. So you can get what you want and I can get what I want.
Everyone can win.
s
I'm not insulting you or the poster or anyone else. I'm simply trying to build a welcoming community. Your comments here and on my post are something I think about often. It has a large impact. I'm really asking you, not trolling: please try to be kind.
You called me a „known hater“. That’s just trolling and lying. There is no point in discussing with disgusting people like you. Good night.
s
Well, you did this on my post too, so you are a known hater, at least to me. That's something that results from this behavior, unfortunately.
If you give negative feedback I'm inclined to think you are just hating, and that it isn't genuinely constructive, and given in good faith.
That's just me being honest, it's not an insult, it's not ad hominem, and you can change your behavior at any time. So it isn't a critique of your identity.
I haven't, for instance, told you to "grow up," or invalidated your point. You have a point, I just wish you were nicer about it.
Feel free to respond or not. You've told me several times you are leaving. I'm not leaving. I'm a member of the community too.
s
Not for me. Except for trolling & spamming you didn’t contribute anything I’m aware of.
s
I'm not sure I understand your point.
It's also entirely possible it is a language barrier. Maybe you don't know your comments come across as mean (or can be interpreted that way) in other cultures. Maybe you mean to be mean. I have no idea.
s
You troll and insult me on this post and everything I saw in feed from you was spam. Simple as that.
s
Ah. So now you are insulting my work? Because I am speaking in defense of this point?
Is my value as a human and commenter the same as what I post to #C0BJ0GTE2?
That seems reductive and also mean, but okay, if that's the direction you want to go with your argument, so be it.
s
Didn’t see any of your work. You may want to share that instead of the kind of spam post you mentioned earlier - the one you deleted.
s
Well, I have.
Not sure what else to say to that one since that is a fact that can be easily verified.
s
Use your spare time to create some original work written in Kotlin and share that instead feed. Maybe a useful lib that’s missing in the ecosystem - I suggest a ZLIB library. Or create a sample app. There are many ways you can contribute to this community in a useful way. Instead you decided to spread hate, insult people, troll and spam. I see no value in that. I hope to see some valuable contributions from you in the future. That’s all.
s
Yeah, right, noted. Thanks for your opinion.
On my work, which isn't even under discussion in this thread. My point was that you could be nicer.
I post under my own name. You can find my work with a simple Google search. I've posted it to #C0BJ0GTE2 for every release I've issued within the past two years.
What an incredibly rude thing to say, honestly.
I expect I'll see you at some future point, and I have to say, I'm not looking forward to that interaction.
I don't know why you would say that to me. Or to anyone else -- you don't work for JetBrains. Your own libraries aren't that great. Have you contributed to Kotlin itself or something? From where do you derive the authority to act this way?
Telling someone their contributions are not valuable? After being asked not to tell someone their contributions are not valuable? You have to admire the fortitude to double-down, I suppose, but I honestly am just stunned that you don't see why your behavior is problematic.
I don't even want to be part of the Kotlin community if it's going to be like this.
🤡 3
I hope to see some positivity from you in the future. That's all.

Saving this screenshot for later when you inevitably delete the meaner things you said and did here.
s
Yeah, you are a clown.
s
As we've learned, Slack threads are forever.
s
In that case let me add this.
s
Like I said, I stand by that comment, unpopular opinion as it may be.
I've asked you to stop hating directly, and I don't delete my comments.
s
You are a known troll and clown.
s
To you, perhaps.
You are just proving my point.
s
Yeah, so you stole me enough time by now. You are not worth my attention.
s
You've also said that. I think three times now.
