Is the Amper plugin ever going to be supported in Android Studio?

We're looking at Android Studio support for the future, certainly after it moves from experimental to a more stable release we'll want to have Android Studio support at some point. But for now, not having the overhead of supporting two IDEs while Amper is experimental helps the team move quicker with IDE features.

Fair enough 😄

With Amper, you're exploring new ways of interfacing with the IDE, correct?

with Amper I'm interested in completely replacing Gradle for the project configuration

That was a question for Márton or his colleagues 🙂

I don't think we have anything specific to share on that topic yet, but of course we're working on tight integration between the IDE and Amper. The main problem with Android Studio support as far as I understand is the IntelliJ platform version mismatch, as Android Studio is usually behind IntelliJ IDEA on that (even though this improved recently). So for the team to implement features and then backport to older APIs too would be a lot of extra effort for not much benefit. And there's also just managing an extra publication, testing things in Android Studio in addition to IDEA when a release happens etc.
