I’m not too happy with Cloudflare right now. Their R2 dashboard showed me the wrong billing cycle, which led me to accidentally go over the free tier and end up with a surprise bill. According to the dashboard, the cycle resets on the 1st of the month. But my invoice shows it actually resets on the 23rd. Out of my 1.2 million files, I uploaded 900k on the last day of August and the rest two days later - thinking I’d stay within the free limit. I contacted billing support, but they gave me a firm “no refunds” (per their policy). To me, that feels like a dark pattern: showing one thing in the dashboard while the actual billing cycle is different. Just a heads-up: be careful.

I would've absolutely trusted that "current billing period" too!

On their Discord, a dev told me they will “fix the tooltip”. When I dig into my account settings under Active Subscriptions, I can see the real date too - I just hadn’t looked there before and trusted the top-level display. What puzzles me is that they only plan to fix the tooltip rather than actually show the billing cycle. Given their strict “no refunds” policy, I can’t help but suspect some bad faith here. If it were truly just a mistake, I’d expect something along the lines of: “Oh, yes, we’ll fix this misleading display - and of course, here’s your refund.”

What they still don’t show is the current billing cycle’s quota - the only data that actually matters for understanding my costs.
