ATS is a big big big thing to consider, unfortunately. It feels awful, but honestly, the better a resume looks, the worse it performs in getting callbacks (in my experience, and in tech specifically; obviously things like design roles are different).
I used to have a nice looking, but still simple resume, and barely got any traction. A friend convinced me to try the boring "one column, black-and-white, serif font, no extraneous details" version that we're all familiar with and looks awful, and my response rate went up quite a bit.
I hate what recruiter AI tooling has done to the job search process 😞
