I think merging IntelliJ IDEA CE & Ultimate into one product is the right move in general, but I hate that I can't seem to remove this distracting "Start Free Trial" button. 😕

I think that's the point (from a biz POV)

I can totally see where this comes from and the free products I worked on for Ashampoo also had upgrade badges for that exact reason. JetBrains annyoing us on purpose here is a new and unexpected move. I think this worsens the user experience. Maybe I feel that way, because with CE before they were way more subtile.

As a happy Ultimate subscriber I can't test it myself, but: What happens if you already did the trial? (At least on YouTube, doing the trial and cancelling it is the best way to get rid of the ads for the Premium trial...)

I can check that. My Ultimate subscription expired last month, so it seems I am eligible for a new trial.
Even starting the trial did not make it go away. In 30 days I'll see how it looks after that. If I try to cancel the trial it just goes back to "Start Free Trial"
I hope they'll allow us at least to make it monochrome and not colored. That'd already help.
If that button still doesn’t work, the next option is obviously a 30-second ad at startup before the tool will let us do anything. :>
Nice, they responded to me on Reddit and I got the hint that they now release pre-built binaries on GitHub. It's actually mentioned in the blog post, but I just skimmed over it. https://github.com/JetBrains/intellij-community/releases/tag/idea%2F2025.3
Note: This version doesn't have the local model for inline code completion. So it's less AI. I wasn't able to add the AI Asisstant plugin to it. Judging from complaints on Reddit over AI, some may like that.

i heard this was happening months ago, but did they officially converge?
