@joffrey can’t install the Kotlin toolchain from the sdk command. I have the latest sdkman installed. Is it ready to use?
$ sdk version

SDKMAN!
script: 5.18.2
native: 0.4.3

❯ sdk install kotlintoolchain

Stop! kotlintoolchain is not a valid candidate.

I'm really surprised, nobody else reported this so far. What's your OS?
As an alternative, you could use the script-based installation, but I'd love to understand what exactly is wrong here. cc @Anton Prokhorov
Apparently this message can happen when their API is down: https://github.com/sdkman/sdkman-cli/issues/1173
A wild hypothesis, if this is the case, is that maybe the sudden traffic after the KotlinConf announcement kinda DDoS-ed their API

Might it be that
sdk update
is required to fetch new candidates? Mentioning this because I've had sdkman installed on my machine and I walked into precisely this error when we were testing things. Updating helped.
j
Yeah I just tried to install SDKMan and
kotlintoolchain
on my WSL distro and it worked fine:
jbion@NVC00722:~$ sdk install kotlintoolchain

Downloading: kotlintoolchain 0.11.0

In progress...

################################################################################################################# 100.0%

Installing: kotlintoolchain 0.11.0
Done installing!
So I'm ruling out the "API is down" hypothesis

@suresh did you already have sdkman installed before?

Might it be that
sdk update
is required to fetch new candidates?
yes that was the issue..Thanks a lot!
$ sdk update

It’s working as expected 👍

Thanks for letting us know, it might be worth mentioning this in the instructions on our website

I'm glad you figured that out, yeah, it might worth mentioning on our website that updating is required
m
@Anton Prokhorov this a good move imo, instead of this build tool being a separate entity, having it directly built into the language is way better.

@joffrey @Anton Prokhorov while re-reading the official keynote highlights i came across this part that indicate that Amper is a core part of the Kotlin Toolchain, which confuses me a bit.
a
@Maher Safadi what specifically does confuse you?
Ah, I see
Yep, wording is strange, I think what it is meant in the blogpost that Amper now becomes part of Kotlin Toolchain and there is no Amper anymore as a product, but Kotlin Toolchain is more than Amper used to be, Amper was only about build, run, test, check, etc But Kotlin Toolchain is an entry point into Kotlin ecosystem, so it's beyond that
