Today I have published my first really big Kotlin multiplatform OSS project. github.com/mipastgt/kts It is a port of the famous Java Topology Suite (JTS) to Kotlin multiplatform. This was a really interesting project because I tried this port already several times before but always failed due to the complexity and size of the project. It has more than 600 classes and 2100 tests. Only now, with the help of Claude Opus 4.8, I was able to successfully finish this project. I failed miserably before with tools like J2K. This time I directed Claude to do the whole conversion without the help of any external tools and I succeeded. It took about 20 hours of pure computation time but in the end the result passed all original tests. In retrospect I can say that the flexibility of an AI agent like Claude is the key enabler and I'd never use a static tool like J2K again for such a task.

I find Claude Opus 4.8 the first actually usable AI that isn't writing garbage code all the time. In my experiments with it it found a lot of the subtle bugs MiniMax 2.7, OpenAI Codex and even Claude Sonnet introduced. Unfortunately the actual Opus quota on the $20 plan is extremely limited.
