1.1.0-RC* is out! It took a bit longer than initially expected, but hopefully the result is worth the wait.
This is the
first integrated release supporting a whole
range of Kotlin versions (
from 2.2.0 to 2.5.0-dev-1759) out of the box. Within that range, we no longer need to adjust the TestBalloon version to the Kotlin version in use. TestBalloon's compiler plugin automatically adapts. Metro pioneered this approach and TestBalloon extended it to an even wider range of Kotlin versions.
Why did TestBalloon 1.1.0-RC not integrate support for Kotlin versions < 2.2.0? Because for those versions, the library would need to use dependencies incompatible with later Kotlin versions (kotlinx-atomicfu, kotlinx-datetime, kotlinx.coroutines). That means Kotlin versions 2.0.0 … 2.1.x still require the corresponding TestBalloon 1.0.1 release variants.
TestBalloon is now in a perfect shape to move quickly and reliably along with the dynamic Kotlin ecosystem. Also, TestBalloon releases are now streamlined to stay within the upcoming Maven Central publishing limits.
TestBalloon's compiler plugin restructuring is a frontier move, providing a new level of sustainable backward compatibility unseen in any project using compiler plugins outside the Kotlin distribution, AFAIK. That's why there is an extra release candidate this time.
Now it's your turn: Please check out this release candidate thoroughly with your existing projects. The RC is production quality code and should be a drop-in replacement, requiring no migration.
Please provide feedback in this post's thread about how it went. And yes,
even boring feedback like "it just works". Please include some project details like compiler version and targets used.
Thank you
kodee loving and happy testing!
