👋 Using Compose Multiplatform and want more people to know about your app? We’re refreshing the Compose Multiplatform app showcase, and we’re after the beautiful stuff: apps where the UI makes people ask what it’s built with. It’s a good fit if your app: • is live in production or public beta; • uses Compose Multiplatform for at least part of the UI; • is available on the App Store or Google Play; • looks good enough that you’d screenshot it yourself 🤘🏻. Selected apps may be featured on Kotlin and JetBrains websites, social media, in talks and other materials, with a link so people can try them. You don’t have to be a household name yet: established products and fast-growing apps are both interesting to us, from company products to indie projects and open source. Submit here: surveys.jetbrains.com/s3/Compose-Mult…

How long will the form be open? I’m cooking on something that’s not released yet. 😄

I ignored that and just submitted apps.microsoft.com/detail/… because I'm proud of the optics & animations. 🙂
And now I'm going to submit web only stefan-oltmann.de/oni-seed-browser.
I agree that the limitation to mobile apps is a bit strange. The submit form actually asks for Microsoft Store, too.
Whether they choose to display it or not is entirely up to them, but I'm more than happy to grant JetBrains full permission to showcase everything I build with their super-nice tech to the world. ❤️ My Seed Browser even says "made with Kotlin" in the footer. 😄 I'm a hardcore Kotlin fanboy. 😅

And poor web... crowded-libs.github.io/artboard and linreal.github.io/cascade-editor are my recent favorites

Just submit them.
k
It's kinda implied that you submit your own stuff, no?
s
You need the permission, yes. So ask the owner to submit.

@katokay and @Sergey Drymchenko for visibility on submitting your sites to this showcase survey

@אליהו הדס Submit all your stuff. 🙂 I guess that'll take you a while. 😆
Poor desktop...
I wonder how strict the Play Store requirement is, because I was planning to release my upcoming tool on Desktop first and add the finishing touches to the Android version later. 🤔
s
Well, App Store would also count for macos apps right?

Why are we forced into these proprietary app stores? There are alternatives to all of them and I prefer to self-publish my desktop apps anyway. Web is out of that too. With Nucleus's auto-update there is almost no reason anymore to use any of these app stores for desktop apps.

Apps from official stores are still more trusted than some wild downloads, in addition to more exposure and discoverability. And realistically, any real product has to publish to these proprietary stores (speaking for ios and android). Alternative stores do not even free you from excessive IAP fees.
s
I publish to Microsoft App Store, because their signing certificate costed me only $19 one-time (and is now free for everyone). No scary warnings on install.
For iOS, I don't see any alternatives. AFAIK, you have to pay Apple $99/year regardless of whether you publish to the official App Store or not. That's why I don't put my apps on the App Store. I simply can't justify Apple fees eating up more money than I make from my small apps. Their asking price is ridiculous.

For Google Play I paid $25 one-time 15 years ago. That's fine. 😄
@Michael Paus Licensing is another reason for the MS Store. With my msstorelib I can easily query the store if the user paid for the app. So I don't need any extra payment provider stuff in the app.

So I guess the bullet points are supposed to be a conjunction, right? 🥹

I was writing from the perspective of free apps, not payed ones.

$25 invested in Bitcoin in January 2011 would be worth $8.43M today @Stefan Oltmann

@Michael Paus Before I added a price tag to my apps I only published free ones. Having them properly signed and not scaring users with that "Windows blocked this app" blue screen is worth something.

@Kirill Grouchnikov thanks for the shoutout for artboard! I submitted, although the survey felt awkward to answer given the survey's original intent. I straddle a world of both being a Compose multiplatform application and a developer tool for others building the same thing. 😅
m
@Alina Dolgikh [JB], is this survey CMP publicity effort somehow related to “Shipathon 2026,” which will probably deliver one or another new CMP app, or is it only about already existing, established apps? I’m asking because of the timing...
m
I just submitted LightWeave Ravel. We literally just launched on the app store (Android coming very soon). 100% of the UI is Compose Multiplatform, shared between iPhone and Android. Side note: LightWeave Ravel's entire video preview and rendering functionality comes from Opus, our own KMP library built on top of the low-level (non-UI) Compose Multiplatform layer. Opus lets you build seekable state-driven multimedia timelines using composable functions, the same way you build UI, and includes Compose UI support for previewing those timelines, as well as functionality for rendering and exporting them as video or audio. Opus fully supports iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and WASM, though Windows and WASM are still experimental. I've mentioned our plans to make Opus open-source, and that is still something we are working on, and plan to do as soon as we are happy with the stability of the Windows and WASM implementations.

@Alina Dolgikh [JB] Can you let us know when the deadline ends? I am also just preparing my new app for release, so that would be helpful to know 🙂

@Flo How far is your app? Since the survey form is still available, I guess the deadline hasn't passed yet. 😄 I still have some doubts about whether desktop-only apps qualify, though. I had an Android version in the works, but I wasn't entirely happy with the compromises I had to make, so I scrapped it and focused on desktop only instead. I'll see if they pick it. apps.microsoft.com/detail/… 🙂
f
@Stefan Oltmann already submitted it a while ago and am still polishing 🙂
s
What is it?
f
you can find it on the play store here and on the web so far here

I'm currently reworking my plan to make it a free app with paid extra features. The one-time thing didn't work out. Nobody showed any interest in a paid app. Software is worth nothing nowadays.

You probably got the news that one guy with Claude Opus 5.5 cloned Adobe's complete app suite and made it open source. That's the world we are living in now… From my user perspective and a open source lover this is just awesome. From my developer perspective who wants to make a living this is a disaster. I don't know how to feel right now.
