For folks using Storyboard for their upcoming talks: I recently introduced a new module
storyboard-warp
that provides a completely new implementation for magic move style animations for code snippets. It should just work. If you want to give that a try, an example is: github.com/bnorm/storyboard/blob/…/WarpScene.kt#… The higher level APIs still need some work, (my compose skills are meh at best). But, the core APIs are pretty solid. If you run into anything odd, please let me know !

I'm a huge fan of Storyboard. I could not use it for my previous talk because it had SQL snippets in addition to Kotlin. My next talk will have JSON and Protobuf snippets. In your PR for Warp I see you mention registering custom languages. Does this mean that storyboard now supports other languages?
r
It has support for arbitrary languages
Just bring your own Textmate grammar
I should add an example for that, but that's one of the nice things about this change
The @Language annotation that you are probably looking at and are confused about is just for the IDE to make things look nicer when writing the code in the editor

Awesome 😎

Should I open a PR? Or is it expected that people using custom languages will use local copies instead? I worry that if too many languages are added then the LanguageRegistry file in wasmJsMain might get out of hand (all textmate grammars are currently stored as strings in that file). @bnorm how do you view the topic of additional language support in storyboard?
r
I think we should just move from resources to string files that can be shared between wasmJs and jvmMain
Apart from that it can all be done in userland to be honest.

I'm okay with adding additional supported languages directly to Storyboard. Feel free to open a PR. However, here are some thoughts about this topic in general: https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C08R5V4EHDH/p1788898163883289

Sorry I think I caused some confusion here. Just to clarify: I only got protobuf working in storyboard-warp, not in storyboard itself.

No confusion, just wanted to provide some context to my thoughts on these utility libraries in general. I often see the opinion that Storyboard needs to provide something to be usable (syntax highlighting is a common occurrence, so nothing is directed at you). But often these things are not Storyboard specific and exist outside of Storyboard. Storyboard includes some utilities, but they are by no means meant to be exhaustive or exclusive. Use whatever you want/can!
