Hello, Louis! So sorry about the editing experience 😞 First thing, I see that you have the
262.9437.300
version of the Kotlin Toolchain plugin. The latest released one is
262.9437.301
which has a few improvements regarding the sync process. As of the caret moving, I guess you might have auto-formatting on save enabled. For now, the sync requires saving the files beforehand, and we don't have a good solution to keep both at the same time (KTC-5835). If you want to keep the auto-formatting, you might be more comfortable with having the manual sync enabled. In the newer version of the plugin it's available in the editor sync status popup under "Sync automatically":
As for the completion popup, that's definitely a bug—I'll try providing the fix for the next release of the plugin!

Is the
262.9437.301
update released? I don't see it in Android Studio Rabbit 1 blob thinking fast I tried IntelliJ IDEA EAP 2026.3 EAP, which has Kotlin Toolchain
263.6259.32
. There, the completion popup unwanted dismissal seems to happen a little less.
To me, auto-formatting should never affect the line where the caret is. Even manual reformatting doesn't move the caret in Kotlin files, so I don't see why it should affect YAML files where I didn't even hit the save button.

Hm, yeah, it should be available for Rabbit 1: plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/31850-kotlin-toolchain/versions/stable

Weird… Same if I search for it in the IDE's Marketplace

That’s very weird. Does it help if you click the gear button (to the right of the “Installed” tab name) and select Refresh there? Does it start proposing the update to 301?
l
This option doesn't exist in this Android Studio version. However, it seems to load when I land there.
k
Oh, it seems that the Refresh action is available only in the internal mode facepalm Do you mind switching to internal mode temporarily, just to test if Refresh brings the plugin update? Because it is really strange that it doesn’t suggest to update mystery If you do, here is how to do it: 1. Invoke Help | Edit Custom VM options 2. Add
-Didea.is.internal=true
to the end of the file 3. Save 4. Restart the IDE.
l
Just did it: Didn't even have to find the refresh button, there were 4 updates (0 before) thinking spinhead

So, the update buttons appeared immediately after the IDE restart?
l
Yes, there was even a (4) on the plugin section on the welcome screen
k
Let’s say it was some glitch ;) Anyway, it is great that the update finally is available. Please install it and try the new Sync indicator. Meanwhile, we’ll fix the issue with completion popup and continue thinking about the format-on-save issue 🦖

Good news, we've figured out how to save the file to disk with avoiding any formatting! We'll also fix that in the upcoming plugin release 🙂

When will formatting happen, then? Only manually with the reformat option?
u
Yeah, or via explicit save action (if there are pending changes which might be tricky because sync constantly saves unsaved documents). Also, if you have it as one of the commit checks. Would you still want some other trigger for it?
Small addition: the auto-formatting set up in "Actions on Save" isn't performed when the saving happens programmaticaly (e.g., when some plugin requests it). However, there is an extra set of rules regarding trailing blank lines and spaces that kicks in (General > Editor). That's the culprit seen on your screencast.

If cmd+S / ctrl + S trims unneeded whitespace like it does for Kotlin and other code files, and cmd+option+L / ctrl + alt + L reformat fixes mangled syntax or improper indent, it's good for me. Basically, if it's consistent and not getting in the way of me editing the text, I'm alright with it.
