Question - I have a colleague who has an app on a Pixel 2 running Android 10. He now has a Pixel 4 also running Android 10 but the app doesn’t work on this new phone and the developers say it’s not supported. What would be the cause of this? How would software need adjusting to new hardware even if the underlying OS is the same (Android 10, in this case) - the app itself is the LibreLink app for tracking glucose levels. It uses the phone’s NFC chip to read from a chip on the colleagues arm. Could it be related to the Pixel 4 having a different NFC chip?

medical testing is pretty rigorous, I wouldn’t be surprised if devices need to be certified before allowing the app to run on them
it looks like they have a pretty narrow compatibility list https://freestyleserver.com/Payloads/IFU/2019/q3/ART41556-001_rev-A-Web.pdf

The underlying OS could be the same but the hardware might be different. You can do a research to see if Pixel 4 NFC chip differs too much from the pixel 2 one. In my case pixel 4 nfc is not working in some gas stations pumps that I go. My pixel 2 used to work but not pixel 4.

Thanks both, super helpful. I do wonder if it’s an NFC chip thing then
