have you guys tested Hangouts Chat? is it any good?
it’s supposed to be Google’s answer to Slack. it already comes with our gsuite subscription and instead of paying north of $100/month just for message history, I’d rather have more pizza parties 😅

i have tried it, but i didn't like it:
• can't delete rooms
• everything is in a thread, and threads show up expanded

if you want to have message history without paying a lot you could try mattermost.
downsides:
• you have to host it yourself
• no threads

another option seems to be microsoft teams, which has a free plan with unlimited search: https://products.office.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/free – I haven't tried it, though
