I thought it was pretty cool, although the image was kind of underwhelming. Both because it’s kind of blurry (as expected) and because it looks very similar to what we expected it to look like (which is kind of surprising).

I'd counter the fact that it was pretty much exactly what we expected is what made it so exciting

I think unexpected results are usually more exciting because that’s when there’s more to learn. In this case it looks like scientists have a pretty reasonable understanding of what’s going on outside a black hole. It would be nice if we could figure out how to get some space telescopes involved with the interferometer so we could take higher resolution pictures though.

Indeed, good measurements of rotation speeds would give all sorts of useful data.
