Here's an abstract of my main hobbies: I like to imagine solutions to technical problems, or world problems. The biggest the potential impact, the more I'm interested in thinking about it, and talking about it too. Efficiency, and sometimes, crazy fun too, are at the heart of my imagination and thinking. I also try to act on it, by commuting efficiently for example (🚲), telling myself that every move counts, because it's the water drop that makes the vase overflow. I also like playing with Lego Technic at times (but am I more into playing into my mind now that it is trained). To sum it up, out of the box thinking is pretty much my all the time hobby. BTW, linking it back to
fun
, something I love with Kotlin is how it helps me make my imagination a reality quicker (compared to other programming languages, and compared to every non programming stuff).

Wow! So what’s the solution to ads everywhere? 😉
s
So… Factorio? TIS-100? Shenzen I/O? OpenTTD?
Maybe even SpaceChem or Oxygen Not Included

@orangy The solution to ads everywhere is the same solution to all (or almost all) the problems that the capitalist economy have. Basically in the world, we have abundance of resources, but the way the economy currently works (far off human nature BTW), is both limiting access to it, and causing people/organizations to waste the resources. What we need is a KEEP, but for world enhancement, and coroutines (plus a throttling/abuse prevention system), but for economy of resources (not money, this is completely off human nature and works best for only ~1%). Thoughtful thinking and enhancement process is needed for this to become a reality, and just like Kotlin, there's a need for compatibility with legacy for it to succeed (let's compare the current economy to Java and C, and attempts to fix it with Groovy, JS and Ceylon). Does that answer your question? 😉
@Shawn I'm not so much into video games, I have never owned a gaming console (although I can now afford it). I didn't know these kind of games though, looks interesting, will look into it!

@louiscad well, it kinda answers, but it doesn’t answer this specific question, but rather a more general question 🙂
l
I tried to give the ultimate answer that is still realistic enough to spend time thinking/dreaming about. If you want the "solve it quick" answer, then there's already ad blockers (and ad blockers detectors, and ad blockers trying to dodge them, plus detectors detecting dodging blockers, and so on). As you can see, current solutions are not solving the problem for good, I feel it's a waste of time (BTW, I no longer use an ad blocker, just the inspector when the ad is too distracting/annoying).

Please don’t play Factorio it’ll eat your life
It’s all about solving local problems which make other local problems more visible. There’s always problems to fix. TO THE NEXT BOTTLENECK
l
@ribesg Then this is not a game I'd enjoy. I prefer to solve big problems, and I prefer exercising on real problems, I didn't like homework for this reason (so I skipped it 😎), but really enjoy solving real problems at work and on my free time.
r
Well the problem in the game is “how to build a rocket able to launch satellites from scratch” so it’s kinda big. The local problems are more about reaching 100% efficiency in your factory
l
But I don't need to train on this, SpaceX already works on this. There are much bigger problems here on Earth, like suboptimal transportation (which I'll actually work on to solve).
