That's a problem for us in non-english speaking countries though 😕. If you mean in code, sure.

Very many years ago I had to convert a CVS repo into SVN. Some evil people had commit messages with åäö (the 3 extra letters in the Swedish alphabet compare to English). There was some encoding weirdness so I had to write a perl script to massage a bunch of text files.

I think that losing all those letters is a fair price to pay to avoid crap like that
