I’m not saying you just put it into YouTrack so we can “happily” ignore it. You can imagine with our user base size there are hundreds and hundreds of reasons why your particular installation can get slower. There is no such thing as “performance” that we shouldn’t break. There cannot be a test for “performance is ok”, right? May be you have some software installed interfering with IJ. Or an option enabled in IJ that other people don’t have enabled. That all requires investigation and if you’re not registered in YT and communicating, we can’t learn from you and actually fix it. If you’re not comfortable with YT, you can write to support@jetbrains.com. Of course, there is always an option to blame us and wait for someone else to have same issue as you who’s collaborating, so we fix it for both of you 🙂
p
I guess I could write to support.
I am just frustrated that we got so few new features that impact us directly and decreased performance all over otherwise. My setup is nothing weird. Generic 2015 macbook pro with intellij.. only very few plugins enabled, only official jetbrains plugins too
o
You didn’t install High Sierra by chance at about the same time, did you?
p
i did that few weeks before
so 2017 intellij was running on high sierra pretty smoothly
for 2018.1 it was the first time i used JetBrains Toolbox though.. maybe that could be a problem

I’m not IJ developer, so I can’t say for sure…

yup

Normally I install the updates almost as soon as they come, but I'm hearing so much trouble, also with plugins in general, and cursive and kotlin in particular that I wait for some fixes.

You have to put yourself in JB's shoes... they need a reproducible bug to squash it. Might be worth doing a clean install to see if you can find out where the slow down happens too...

I understand it's hard to reproduce performance issues but that's my point. JB should take extreme care to not make the product worse with updates. Someone clearly did not care otherwise so many people wouldn't have issues with the 2018.1 update.

I don’t have any information about how many people were affected, and if there is known issue, or something under investigation. I will ask.
