The performance of the Slack app is not great but everything else is really good, starting with the UI (IMO the best chat UI I’ve ever seen)

Except threads.

Yeah, but threads are hard to nail down
I’m actually not even aware of any other chat app that has threads
so in a way, it’s the best chat threaded view I’ve ever seen, because I’ve only ever seen one
a
Threads are the #1 benefit of Slack over HipChat.
o
I think they just need to iterate it faster and fix small annoyances here and there. Like posting images to threads, etc.

i can see it on the slack box
Slack 2018:
... its the best chat threaded view I've ever seen

I like the threads too. It helps keeps the chat from being flooded.
a
Yeah I feel less bad about shitposting in a thread. 🧌

yep, but you can easily miss something interesting/important
k
Also, how long did it take them to provide an option to disable the "... joined this channel" messages.
y
@adam-mcneilly Um it's called funposting, thank you.
s
@cedric Zulip’s chat model is focused around threads, it’s kind of interesting, I guess
f
MS teams has threads, but everything about teams is terrible
t
Search is my biggest problem with it, otherwise great.

the fundamental promise of Slack was bots and intelligence, that was clearly just a way to increase their valuation, integrations are useful, but the api is pretty dumb, and nothing ever changes, you cannot even put a link in that has text! and the co is worth $6B?
c
Valuation is much more tied to eyeballs than this kind of thing. And Slack certainly has plenty of eyeballs
c
yeah but when they first cropped up they did a private raise at $2.8B.. the product has changed very little in the last few years, I wish they did try to make it smarter..
I do kind of go along with the argument that it's just another way to give you a simple organizational mechanism that rapidly becomes comparable to what it was supposed to improve, but I would say I still prefer to use Slack, particularly with docs that are backed by google drive than email.
