Shameless plug, I did a talk at KotlinConf on this whole Python and ML subject. And yes, join the #C4W52CFEZ channel if you want to banter about this stuff.

uh?

you were talking about plugs the other day and where they belonged, self-promotion.. was a joke.. OP @thomasnield was adjoining here because of prior discussion..

System76 is paying me to do road shows for them. I did have people at KotlinConf ask me about it. Perfect commercial segment happened right then and there.
@elect has been hired by System76 as well. We are paid as a team to plant seemingly organic conversations about System76 laptops, on forums as well as conferences.

ok are you joking now? if so that's pretty funny.. had never heard of those machines.. look interesting.. did you get their OS?
t
@codeslubber totally joking 😛
If you like Linux, System76 is pretty swell. Kudu is great, Galago Pro is nice but has mediocre battery life. Oryx Pro is the one most people buy last I checked. I use Linux Mint though, I haven't tried PopOS yet.
c
did you get 32 GBs RAM? I read that CoffeeLake will be probably the biggest CPU leap in the last decade, thinking I will wait for that to make it to a Macbook Pro (have to still code for ios).. or, I could just keep my late 2013 for that and jump ship...
t
Just 16 gigs. I dunno, there's always something to wait for. But procrastinating these kinds of purchases don't hurt.
c
Not procrastination, the last couple Macbook releases have been a complete joke
'oh you waited years, here, have last year's processor, a chicklet keyboard add on, and fork over another 4 hund...'
then their mea culpa was 'ok have Kaby Lake, but w/out a 32GB option...'
c
I increasingly prefer Windows for development
c
I want to give it a try.. maybe they will deliver a way to compile ios code then there might be an exodus
c
Not really an option if you're writing iOS, obviously
c
you could write a lot of the code on another machine then just use a mac to assemble the ui
or we could do an OS project where you write the ui using a DSL and it gens ios and android versions since K and S are so close...
c
Somebody needs to invent a language that can compile to multiple back ends

I have a Surface Pro as well. Not a fan of Windows as much but the hardware is excellent.
