Github trending: 1. Kotlin (575 stars today) 2. … 3. from-java-to-kotlin (380 stars today) 😂 The project have been created TWO days ago. At least we know that people are really trying kotlin.

two days at this rate to beat coffees-script 🙂
g
Yes! It would make a good list: swift, go, typescript, rust, kotlin. Coffee-script shouldn’t be here now.

the huge number on swift makes me think that there was some sort of campaign to get it so high. or is there just that many sheeple on the 🍎 wagon?
o
Well, first it’s not polite to call Swift developers “sheeple”. Second, it’s very popular platform and very popular language. And many people if not using it, watching its progress. Some are just waiting for ABI freeze, some are watching design docs and progress.

With official support of Google the situation regarding kotlin should be now more comparable to swift/iOS. Kotlin could have the same numbers next year.
o
Let’s not try to predict future when we can actually build it.

It was not my point. More an explanation of
the huge number on swift makes me think that there was some sort of campaign to get it so high.
My thought is: a good language, on a big platform, with an official support CAN have huge numbers.
o
Agree
One BHAG would be to get adoption from Apple ecosystem 😄 In may be 10 years or so…
g
😉. Anyway, it’s already an amazing journey. You took some time to celebrate a little bit?
o
Not yet, we were busy 🙂
g
LOL. It’s not a total good news. There are some drawbacks.
p
What are some drawbacks of Google supporting Kotlin? I am geniunly interested. I hope Google will have very limited say in what features are implemented because they are awful software designers as proven time and time again by the abomination called Angular.
g
The drawbacks are only the overload due to google’s announcement. JB team has not the time to celebrate it.
