Why don’t they make it ViewModelProviders.of<Cart>(activity) with reified inline functions?

orangy: Because it's Java code behind as they are continuing Java support. But for true Kotlin developers, it's about 10 seconds to create an extension method for that extra verbosity. Kotlin enhancements may come before the 1.0 version is released BTW
