it is kind of classic game theory though to just give people just enough to make them still see change as expensive or risky, so sure, maybe they will not try to go toe-to-toe, but for sure they are attempting to blunt the draw of other languages, and the perception that their language is hopeless and will never improve..

codeslubber: codeslubber: this has been like Microsoft's continued success. See also, all the recent stuff they've done too, to keep people on their stagnant platform. So many things in Windows just hasn't kept with the times(like their crap filesystem, for starters), but for them it doesn't have to.. People still have to buy it.

I still think some sugar does not a sea change make, things like Optionals and stronger abstractions do (and better tooling).. and better readability..
