Yep. It is more like a stabilization release for the features that were introduced in 1.5.x minor releases and were hidden under a compiler flag.

Will heavily depend on what type of development is being done with Kotlin, which affects the significance of the Kotlin 1.6 release. Some developers will view Kotlin 1.6 as being a more significant release than others.
n
"looks like nothing obviously big is upcoming" - Which is a good thing... Kotlin already has lots of great features but also lots of bugs and issues. The main goal should be to stabilize the platform before adding more shiny new features. Besides, even large frameworks - like Compose - may adopt the new version earlier if the migration is not too difficult. And to tell the truth, multiplatform Compose is full of painful issues ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Just in case, link above includes only changes between 1.6.0-rc1 and 1.6.0-rc2 Though itโ€™s true, no big features this release

Other changes: โ€ข https://github.com/JetBrains/kotlin/releases/tag/v1.6.0-M1 โ€ข https://github.com/JetBrains/kotlin/releases/tag/v1.6.0-RC So, 1.6.0 will fix lots of issues ๐Ÿคฉ
r
how to get a release note for all of 1.6.0, summarizing the changes compared to 1.5.x
of course its not written yet since 1.6.0 is not released yet but there must be some way to get a preview
g
It will be available after release, you can check full changelog: https://github.com/JetBrains/kotlin/compare/v1.5.31...v1.6.0-RC2

So, version 1.6.0 final seems to have silently been released today, see e.g. https://plugins.gradle.org/plugin/org.jetbrains.kotlin.jvm!
g
silently been released today
Itโ€™s normal, release is still in progress, it required to release a lot of different artifacts to different repositories, there is no release transactions for maven repositories, and especially between different repositories (like mavenCentral/JB Space/yarn/npm) ๐Ÿ˜„ Usually release requires 2-3 days and it will be announced on Kotlin Blog
