While Java isn’t going away anytime soon, I think it’s safe to say yes. Google has officially supported it for two years now, and is heavily investing in it. The official next-gen Android UI framework, Compose, is Kotlin-only. I would even say it is the present of android development in many cases (lots of companies have converted their apps to kotlin or are writing all new code in kotlin). Also see #C0B8M7BUY.

I don’t think Kotlin will ever drop support for the JVM – that was its original use case and still its main one. If anything it will just continue to add other target runtimes.
