KOTLIN IS, AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN, A BRAND OF KETCHUP. IT IS NOT A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE

Care to elaborate? This sounds interesting
s
h
Kotlin is a real brand of ketchup. Google it

Oh shit πŸ˜„

And an island in Saint Petersburg: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Kotlin+Island/
h
And a battleship
g
I think the language is named after the island? Because Java is also named after an island and Jetbrains HQ is in Saint Peterburg
s
Yes, it's named for that island in St Petersburg's harbor. πŸ˜€
m
Java is also a term for coffee in most English speaking places. Words get re-used... As long as its not confusing to consumers, it's not really a problem. No one is going to think the ketchup company decided to create a programming language, and no one is going to think that Jetbrains has started making ketchup, will they?
h
@Mike what are you talking about? Kotlin is only a ketchup brand and will never be anything else

p
Fun fact: the name of the ketchup comes from the name of that place in Poland πŸ˜‰
m
@Hamza I hope you're just joking around... Where I'm from, Heinz is the premiere ketchup brand. No such thing as a ketchup called Kotlin here.

h
im just joking haha
i was making a joke of the comment in the daily wtf post
m
Good πŸ˜‰. I read the article, but that comment hadn't stuck in my mind. It is interesting how we all have certain associations based on where we grew up, and now that we're more global, they start to 'clash'.
m
Is there a place to actually buy these ? I could see meetups/#KotlinEverywhere events serve Kotlin-flavoured hot dogs 🌭
(besides going to Kotlin, PL :-))
m
It is interesting how we all have certain associations based on where we grew up
If you're Slav, you program in Kotlin
h
Actually though. How popular is kotlin in Russia?
I know the HQ is in saint Petersburg, but is it like huge over there?
u
You used Scala as search term, not as a programming language. It should be: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=RU&q=%2Fm%2F0_lcrx4,%2Fm%2F091hdj
h
interestingly, the search term kotlin ismore popular than the search term programming
