I actually somewhat wish the kotlin dsl for gradle didn't happen, too much baggage, too much mess.

I think the end result will be better, but it has a long way to go still. But we can't just blame Kotlin, Gradle is very awkward to configure. Maven is verbose, but it made more sense to me.

I found end result of moving to Gradle Kotlin DSL was very positive. Faster builds once stable, but also much better type safety to identify build misconfiguration and make it easy to fix
