hey everyone, I’m currently prepping the State of Kotlin report (maybe you’ve seen the survey floating in the first few months of the year) Currently working on a piece of visualisation and looking to get some feedback on it. I’m mostly interested in whether this approach works for the data I’m trying to visualise. Don’t worry about the design specifics(colours and shapes) - it’s just a concept at the moment. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers! https://imgur.com/Ci7kDJb

Maybe a bar plot separating the categories would convey the message better. Comparing circles sizes is a little hard

if it's going to be in a slide i also think a bar chart would be a better fit

it’s going to be a website primarily
and we already have a bunch of bar charts so we’re exploring something else, more funky, to break the monotony.
thanks for the feedback though 🙂

What do the circle sizes represent?

relative popularity of individual resource
the colours are completely random

Right, but how is that measured?

it’s a survey result - so I’m comparing the populations that selected each of these resources as the most important one.

It's interesting that slack is so small and that stackoverflow isn't even in there.

I didn’t put it in there
I’m also beating myself up for not putting Google in there either
it’s big for Android

Well "google" wouldn't work, you'd need "android official docs" or something.
Because "google search" isn't really a source.

that’s what I meant - the googleverse side of Kotlin resources
next year I guess
