This is (probably) going to be fixed in release 1.2! This issue is exactly what we're talking about: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KT-14397, and it's marked as a duplicate of https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KT-7186 (I wouldn't have been able to tell that myself though 🙂 ) which is marked as targeted with major priority for release 1.2.

karelpeeters: The proposed fix for KT-7186 won't help in the former situation with isNullOrEmpty. I've changed the status of the first issue to reflect that it's not a duplicate of KT-7186.
