IntelliJ 2021.3 has just shipped with Kotlin plugin 1.5.10? That seems… less than brilliant? Not even 1.5.31, let alone 1.6.0. Nasty surprise for some, I imagine.

Is there a known workaround?
c
its only a suprise for people who did not experience the same in the last 4 EAP cycles.
m
damn, I just clicked Upgrade to 2013.3
k
there is warning before upgrade
c
actually the plugin version is a bit misleading, the eap plugin is not that bad. its just not a 1.6 version
p
I’m confused. Our entire codebase is Kotlin 1.6. Does this mean we must not update to 2021.3?

Just ran into this as well - Toolbox updated the IDE so I didn't see any warning. Toolbox rollback seems to be the best option for me until it's resolved.
m
@pniederw I'm unable to work with 1.6.0 project in 2013.3 - had to rollback

2013 sounds pretty old though 😛

Is there a timeline when this will be available ?

c
I’m pretty sure it will be released within the next few days, my guess is with the 1.6.10 release
r
Wtf
d
This is really really irritating. I expressed my frustration here just a few days ago: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/9320-advanced-java-folding/reviews#review=61515 Plugins of third-party develops break, which is annoying. Then plugins released under the 'JetBrains' account break, see the link. (This plugin currently shows as if there is an update available, but installing it fails with a 404). Then micropython and python breaks - bundled plugins. And now Kotlin is downgraded, THE (!) programming language Jetbrains developed themselfs? 😞

Can we get a ping to this channel when a fix for the Kotlin 1.6 plugin in IntelliJ 2021.3 goes out please?

k
I guess idea will notify by itself
r
If you stay on the broken version, sure, but I guess most people rather wanted to be able to work and rolled back
k
true
r
Well its not actually broken. just needs that plugin updated
p
apparently it’s not so simply and only 1.6.10 will be supported
r
Update here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KTIJ-20305 To save you the click: Update (December 6): We are not going to release 1.6.0 for IDEA 2021.3, because it takes a huge amount of time and 1.6.10 contains many important fixes. 1.6.10-RC will be published into EAP channel at the beginning of this week. 1.6.10-release will be published into Stable channel at the end of next week. We want to apologize for the current situation. We understand that this is unacceptable.
c
to save you another click: the rc is not yet released

😆 1
now its there (in the 1.6 channel)
so everybody try it and file bugs for it to make up for the missing last 6 months of user feedback 😄
😆 2
j
it is not appearing for me
should it be there?
r
@Javier Using IDEA 2021.3? Was there for me. Perhaps all the mirrors have not updated yet.
So far so good with the 1.6 plugin on 2021.3.
j
yes

well, restarting the IDE fixed the problem, indeed more plugins updates have appeared :/
c
i have submitted some exceptions in the error reporter, but it looks pretty solid.
r
+1 on 1.6-RC plugin working on 2021.3
c
1.6.10 plugin is now available
n
1.6.10 plugin is now available. 2021.3 should support Kotlin 1.6 correctly now.
