yes the 2021.2.2 candidate releases ship with a broken plugin, https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/KTIJ-19504

the fix is to use 2021.2.1 and not update to the 1.5.30 plugin

Thank you @christophsturm, will downgrade and hope it works better.. Feels like the plug in has shipped with critical bugs quite often lately..
