Alright, that seems to be coming from the project, though I’m not sure why. Other projects work alright. If anyone has an idea, I’m interested.

Judging by the colors in the other screenshot, I'd say the project is not properly synchronised, or it would also be more colorful like this screenshot

yes that was indeed the issue. I am not sure why the exact same project in another folder works though, but that’s what I’ve ended up doing

You could have tried pressing the "Refresh" button in the Gradle tool window, or "Invalidate caches and restart" which is always worth a try if the IDE behaves unexpected in a weird way.
