I have both M1 Air & Pro I can say don't go with 8GB model if want to run emulator because the max memory you will get to use after Mac OS will be 4GB and that is not enough You can get any windows desktop with 16GB or higher and that performs better than it. I also have desktop with i5 8th gen and it has 16GB with 4GB 1050ti and it performs better than my pro and never lag & hang in Ubuntu 20.04 Initially the geekbench 5 score of my desktop is 5000 & both Aur/Pro has 7700 but in terms of performance M1 lags while running more than one emulator, and I have to close & restart Android Studio time to time to make my laptop working & not hanging.

I have a M1 Air with 16 GB memory. It is faster than my i7-9700 PC with 32 GB memory. I also adjusted the AS' VM options to make it not running lags. I think it is worth to have a M1 device for Android development with at least 16 GB memory. (Actually, I want 32 GB memory but Air only gives 16 GB at most..) Note: AS has M1 native support version that can run very faster than the x86 version.
