Instead of just reacting with StackOverflow emojis one could take the time and try to understand the questions…

1. read the channel description. if it is not Kotlin-specific, it does not belong here. 2. the same policy applies to the whole server

this is the android channel lol

Topic:
Kandroid new Using Kotlin to build Android apps.
Android Studio Integration.
Android-specific Gradle.

This is a kotlinlang slack. It's for jetbrains to monitor issues with Kotlin On Android so they can fix things quickly.
Look up the Android United slack for an android anything slack.

literally anyone asks anything on here sooo….

Because they don't bother reading rules of conduct or info on the channel 🤷‍♂️

Those who ask about unrelated topics, such as SharedPreferences, are inconsiderate and entitled. They violate the rules because there is no moderation. People see that others pollute this channel and think to themselves "Hmm, why should I follow the rules when other people break them too? I'm too special for this.", hence the self perpetuating phenomenon. It has been suggested numerous times to rename this channel from
android
to
kotlin-on-android
or similar. It has not gained political favor though. The problem itself - entitled persons who don't read the rules - has been acknowledged. Usually I link the following message to shut up the "But muh channel named "android" hurr durr": https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C0922A726/p1605600951384800
This topic is near and dear to my heart since I wanted to come to the Kotlin Slack workspace to escape the ever-present repeated beginner Android questions, reading about interesting KOTLIN-ONLY cases. Yet the crowd follows everywhere I go 😞
All of the above is not to say that your question is a bad one. It is, in fact, an interesting question - finding out how some Android OS component names the SharedPreferences file. A prime example of StackOverflow-worthy enquiry. It's just completely inappropriate for this channel since it has nothing to do with Kotlin as a language. I hope the stackoverflow google tags are now clearer?

It is not Andre’s fault he asked for Android help on the “android” channel. Sure, the channel description says otherwise, but when most questions here don’t follow the channel description, there might be a bigger/ systemic problem at play.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. Will keep this in mind for future questions.

Honestly think we should rename the channel to something like android-kotlin-issues. Also FYI, this happens on the server and spring and javascript channels too but there aren't as many users...
