That's actually the problem. I actually don't know either android or Java and most resources starts assuming familiarity with one or both.

I attempted to do a tutorial like this in a series of blog posts! It was hard, because I was biased having prior experience with Android and Java, but perhaps it will at least nudge you in the right direction! I'm open to feedback.
